You could theoretically supplement the need for the previous 35mm f/1.4 prime lens – however we like both of these for different reasons.

The new 16-35 f/2.8 III is sharper at f/2.8 then the f/4 is at f/4 for 16mm. That's much more impressive than I even dared to hope. Even at f/8 the new 16-35 III has a noticeable advantage in the corners. At 35 mm the two lenses are about equal wide open, but the III has a slight advantage at f/8 still. There is also noticeably less fringing
The native-mount Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens will be the head-on competition for these kits. In the Sigma vs. Sony comparison at f/2.8, the Sony shows as the modestly sharper lens at most focal lengths and also shows less lateral CA at 70mm. I see the Sony still holding the slight edge in the f/4 comparisons.
