I have read many of the white papers regarding high end speaker cable and their logic is so full of holes I would never give most of them a cent of my money. Buy high quality cable and make high quality terminations.
Monster has a long history of doing this. Monster sold speaker cables marked with the speaker and amp ends. Monster said connecting the speaker end to the amp would subvert sound. And so many actually could 'hear' the difference. Then Monster sold these $7 speaker wires for $70. Monster has a long history of identifying scams.
The Mars Hotel. Having purchased the original high end Monster speaker cable, the light grey/beige colored one, not the clear jacket junk, and being able to compare it with a more current cable such as the MIT Shotgun, I can say without question that the Monster cable is seriously lacking. Without cutting the cable apart, I would say the diameter is a good 2 millimeters, which gives it a radius of 1 millimeter. That's an area of roughly 3 millimeters squared. guess what? 12 gauge. So much for all the 16 gauge monster bashing. The component cable itself is probably worth $10 easy. The extra 10 ft subwoofer cable is really nice too.
I'm going to call monster cable scam, or even if it is decent cable, at that price you've gone way past the point of diminishing returns. I payed $20 for two neutrik jacks and 15 feet of Mogami
Thicker is better for longer runs. I use 30-45ft of Canare 4s11 cable shotgun (since there are 4 smaller cables inside which I pair up) and it goes for like $.60-80 a foot. I'm not sure if its in wall rated but it has a ton of jacket on it. P.S. Monster z1 cable is like $3.5 a foot and m1.2 is like $7.5 a foot.
